Project Manager Category Management

As the 

Project Manager of a Category Excellence team, you will play a critical role in defining, setting up, and implementing end-to-end processes that drive performance, standardization, and operational excellence across our Category & Buying organization.  

You will lead and support cross-functional projects that enhance process governance, improve the quality of category plans, and drive the adoption of best practices. 

Your focus is on bringing in industry best practices, building governance around key processes like category planning and product lifecycle management, and enabling teams to work smarter and deliver more impact. 

 

This position is based in Varsseveld (at least once a week) & Utrecht or Leek following our hybrid work policy of 2–3 office days per week. 

 

What is your role?  What will keep you busy? 

  • Change Management. Support and drive change initiatives across C&B by analyzing performance, identifying improvement areas, and guiding the adoption of new tools, processes, and mindsets. 

  • Category Planning Enablement. Improve the quality and consistency of category plans by introducing frameworks, templates, and coaching. Help teams connect their plans to business objectives and stakeholder needs. 

  • Tooling & Capability Building. Lead the development and deployment of tools that support category management and buying processes—ensuring teams are equipped and trained to use them effectively. 

  • Project & Process Governance. Run and contribute to key initiatives such as product lifecycle management and sourcing strategy definition, embedding structure and discipline into execution. 

  • Best Practice & Knowledge Sharing. Gather and promote internal and external best practices (e.g., from fashion, food or automotive sectors), and facilitate knowledge-sharing through case studies and workshops. 

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration. Work closely with supply chain, finance, and data teams to align process improvements and ensure end-to-end integration of category and buying initiatives. 

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders. Monitor progress, escalate blockers, and report outcomes with transparency and clarity. 

 

Who are you?   

For this job we have a couple of requirements:   

Professional Experience 

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level of Work Experience 

  • Proven experience in project or program management, ideally within a commercial, buying, or category management setting. 

  • Skilled at translating strategic goals into actionable plans, tools, and scalable solutions. 

  • Strong stakeholder manager who connects teams, drives alignment, and ensures cross-functional buy-in. 

  • Comfortable navigating complexity and ambiguity, with a structured and hands-on approach to delivery. 

  • Analytical and pragmatic, able to identify opportunities, define priorities, and drive measurable outcomes.
